How We Farm

At Little Clayhill Farm, we know that more and more people want to understand where their food comes from. We think that’s a good thing. Food should be honest, local where possible, and produced with care. That’s why we want to give you a little insight into how we farm, what we produce ourselves, and how we choose the products we bring into our farm shop.
What We Produce Ourselves
On the farm, we raise our own lamb and pork, alongside our free-range ducks and chickens, who provide us with fresh eggs. We farm with a low-input approach, meaning we don’t pump our land or animals full of unnecessary chemicals. Our animals are only ever medicated when it’s truly needed for their health and wellbeing — never routinely.
We’re proud to be part of the Sustainable Farming programme, which means we don’t just farm for ourselves; we farm with wildlife in mind. Fields are set aside for pollinators, insects, and birds, creating habitats where nature can thrive alongside our animals.
What We Source Locally
For the products we don’t produce ourselves, we always look close to home first. We’re lucky to be surrounded by some fantastic Somerset businesses and farmers, and we work with them to stock our shop with the best local produce:
Somerset Chilli Garden – experts in growing some of the tastiest chillies around
Rose Farm – a long-standing local supplier
Bradley’s Drinks – a family-run business producing fantastic soft drinks
Sam Blunt Butchery – a small, high-quality butchery business we’re proud to support
What’s Not Local (and Why)
Not everything can be sourced on our doorstep. Some things, like hot drinks and crisps just are not available here in Somerset — but we still keep them on the shelves so there’s something for everyone when you pop in.
Farming With the Future in Mind
We believe that farming should care for the land as much as it does for the animals and people it feeds. That’s why we generate our own renewable electricity from solar panels, using what we need and returning the rest to the grid.
We want to be transparent with our customers because farming is more than just producing food — it’s about trust, community, and sustainability.
Come and See for Yourself
The best way to understand how we farm is to come and experience it. Visit our farm shop, take a look at what’s on offer, and know that every time you buy something, you’re supporting not only our family farm but also a whole network of local businesses and wildlife-friendly farming.
We’d love to see you soon.
