Little Clayhill Farm offers farm-based alternative provision in Somerset for children and young people who may benefit from a calmer, more practical and supportive learning environment outside a traditional classroom.
Based on our working family farm near Bridgwater, we use animals, nature, outdoor learning and purposeful farm tasks to help young people build confidence, develop practical skills, improve wellbeing and re-engage with learning.
Our alternative provision is suitable for children and young people who may find mainstream education difficult, including learners with SEND, SEMH needs, anxiety, low confidence, communication difficulties, reduced attendance, or those who benefit from hands-on, outdoor learning.
Farm-Based Learning Outside the Classroom
The farm provides a different kind of learning environment. It is structured and purposeful, but it also gives young people space to move, think, reset and learn through doing.
Many children respond well to having real jobs with visible outcomes. Feeding animals, collecting eggs, helping with bedding, checking livestock, growing food, completing practical tasks and caring for the farm can all help young people feel useful, trusted and successful.
At Little Clayhill Farm, learning is built around practical activity, routine, responsibility and positive relationships.

We understand that every young person is different. Before a placement begins, we aim to understand their needs, strengths, interests, risks and goals so that sessions can be planned appropriately.
Little Clayhill Farm is a Somerset Council approved alternative provision provider.
We offer sessions during term time, Monday to Friday, between 9:30am and 2:30pm.
Sessions can be delivered as 1:1 support or in small groups, with a maximum of 5 children per group. This allows us to provide a calm, supportive and practical learning environment where each young person can be given the time, space and encouragement they need.
